Genesis 32:25 When the man saw that he, Jacob could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestle with the man. Jacob from then on was limping because of his hip.
Acts 9:1-4 Saul fell to the ground…2 Corinthians 12:6-7 Now Paul, spoke about the thorn in his flesh. God told Paul His power is made perfect in his, Paul weakness. The Lord proclaimed that His grace was fully capable of providing everything Paul needed to endure his suffering.
Have you ever struggled with God to the point, like Jacob and Paul you were left with a thorn in your flesh? As so eloquently described by Paul. What’s the thorn in your flesh? A thorn in your flesh is anything that disrupts your normal physical well being in your body, yet you are functional. It’s a reminder of your physical and spiritual dependence on the Lord. I came to realize that your thorn can also be mental, emotional or conscious, such as fear or anything that makes you rely only on God, because no one but God is able to make the impossible possible for you in your live. You’ll learn to acknowledge His power working within you when fear no longer controls over you. His power working within enable you to do whatever He has called you to, even doing it scared regardless. Bold assurance and fresh courage somehow over takes you whether it’s fear, your health…whatever your struggles maybe, reminds us that God strength is made perfect in our weakness. God does whatever it takes to get our attention, but sometimes we’re much too distracted by life to acknowledge it.
You are marked with humility in Christ to submit your will to the Heavenly Father’s, lest you forget whose you are, with that touch that can leave you totally relying on the Heavenly Father. Whenever we get beside ourselves, to think too highly of one self, you have a constant reminder to stay (in your lane) in other words, on your knees in prayer remaining close to God. You are touched! Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane had a touch. That touch happened when all His power was stricken from Him for what He was about to face. Jesus the man was separated from Jesus the deity in the garden of Gethsemane. No strength or power of His own, lead like a lamb to the slaughter, giving up His power; subject to physical, mental, and emotional torture and felt everything like we do.
When God has revealed Himself to us in our struggles He touches us. For some people who are unable to recognize the touch as Paul and Jacob had, they consider it a curse on their lives. Even with this knowledge given through Paul and Jacob some people are born with a touch, not even aware of what the touch is, or meant to be in their lives. When Jesus was asked by his disciples in John 9: 1-3 who sinned, the blind man or his parents that he was born blind. Jesus answered, “ neither the blind man nor his parents sinned, but it happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” Even though the blind man had struggles in life as being born blind he survived, to be given his sight and God the glory. God will and purpose was completed in him. It was his time in his struggle to be touched to show Gods power.
We have to stop hating our live and having high expectation feeling like a failure over and over again without asking in prayer for the Lord to guide and lead us in His will and purpose for your life, especially as faithful believers in God. We have to ask for discernment to the voice of God in our lives and recognize the touch. Do you feel the thorn in your flesh? Then give Him praise! The thorn is working for your good, it’s a “Touch!”
