What really was the promised land? According to the bible the promise land, is the land of milk and honey promised and subsequently given by God to Abraham and his descendants. It was made first to Abraham: Genesis 15:18-21, Isaac: Genesis 26:3 and Jacob: Genesis 28:13.
Today I can’t help but believe after the life, death and resurrection of Jesus the promised land is no longer a place, but a state of mind. The promised land is dominated by the kingdom of God, can this be ever understood? Wherever Jesus has been preached and accepted, there is peace and happiness.
If the promised land is the place filled with milk and honey, then we are in it people. What is milk and honey? It’s the peace and love of God with all provision for our needs. We have been chosen like the disciples of Jesus, to know the Lord and follow His son. We were given the word (gospel) and have the faith to spread it throughout the world. Think of the blessing upon us in our lives. Look at the luxurious life we are able to live, even if we are living paycheck to paycheck. We have homes with bathrooms and kitchen, car, cellphones clothing, food, we have our pets we treat better than some human beings in certain countries, we have laws to protect our rights as human being, we enjoy all kind of freedoms, etc. Think for a moment of the countries in the world who still doesn’t know what it’s like to have clean running water to drink, food, clothing, doctors or nurses, dentists, and the lists goes on, all the things we take for granted in our lives.
Our ancestors would have loved to be in our place with all that we have and can do. Our lives is their dream fulfilled by faith. But yet we can’t recognize it, because we are to busy wanting more, the greed. I believe all the sacrifices and lessons they endured we take for granted in our ignorance.
